Naxos Island Resorts
Naxos Town: Naxos or Hora stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site on a hillside on the north-west side of the island and is one of the most attractive towns in the Cyclades.
Naxos Town (or Hora) is the capital and main port of Naxos Island. It is a lively town with 8,000 inhabitants. It has tiny roads, alleys, archways and old houses, in and around the old Venetian Castle. North of the port, a pathway stretches out to the islet of Palatia and the unfinished Temple of Apollo (6th century BC). Portara (picture on the right), is the huge entrance (6 metres height, 3.5 metres width) to the temple that Naxos tyrant Lygdamis began building on Palatia Islet. Further north of Palatia (in Grotta) are remains from the Mycenaean period.
As the visitor walks from the harbour high up to the Venetian castle, he will be struck by the beauty of the narrow winding lanes and the old stone houses lining them.
Saint George is Naxos Town beach resort (second picture on the right) and it is a long beach 1 Km lond with fine sand and water sport facilities.
Agios Prokopios is 4 kilometers away from Naxos Town and it is one of the
most popular resorts in the Island.
Its linked with frequent frequent buses from Naxos town.
The beach (third picture on the right) is 1.5Km long and it is said to be one of the best in Naxos Island and Greece too.
Agia Anna Agia Anna village has been recently developed on the so called area. There is a lovely long sandy beach. There are hotels and rooms studios to let, taverns, restaurants and water sports. In summer high season, there are cruises departing Agia Anna to the neighbour islands.
Plaka is just next to Agia Anna. It is a fabullus beach, 4 kilometres ling with fine sand. Orkos is located next to Plaka.
Vigla is 18 kilometres fron Naxos town.
It has fine white sand and it is wind surfers paradise.
Galini (5Km from Naxos Town) is a traditional and quiet and peaceful village, in the verdant Galini Valley, only 10 minutes drive from Naxos Town. The area is surrounded by orchards and farms and the beach is only 1500 metres away from the village.
